NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
*Nuclear power plants are used only as base load plants because any change in the load demand requires a corresponding change in the output energy.
*In nuclear power plants, the input energy is produced by burning the nuclear fuel.
*There is always a large time lapse between the change in energy output and input which is not desirable.
Main Components
1. Nuclear Reactor
2. Heat Exchanger
3. Steam Turbine
4. Condenser
5. Electric Generator
Nuclear Reactor
*Nuclear reactor, heat is produced due to nuclear fission chain reaction
*A nuclear reactor is similar to the furnace of a steam power plant (or) combustion chamber of a gas turbine power plant.

Nuclear Fission : It is the process of splitting of nucleus into two almost equal fragments accompanied by the release of of heat.

Nuclear Fusion : It is the process of combining two lighter nuclei into a stable and heavier nucleus by fusion.
